***EDP PILGRIM CUP***

The Pilgrim Cup is over and what a great weekend and experience it was for all the lads that took part.

For the 9’s it was a disappointing day, we came up against 4 very physical sides. With the likes of Boston United, Chesterfield and York City it was always going to be a tough day. But you can always take positives, I think there was a few fantastic individual performances, but on a weekend like the Pilgrim Cup the whole squad has to be playing to there best potential, to be successful else you’ll get punished. I would like to say thank you to all the squad, it was a great experience and it shows us what we’ve got to work towards.

Fantastic day for the U10’s today. Comfortable 3-0 winners against Bristol City and 2-0 winners over Boston United. The boys finished 2nd in the group stage and was unlucky not to go through to the quarter finals. Only goal difference kept us from not progressing in the competition. Great attitude from all the kids, and a massive thank you from all the coaches to parents and those who played.
The 11’s came up against some fantastic opposition in there group. Norwich, Nottingham Forest, Bristol City and Doncaster Rovers. It started off great with a 1-0 victory over Bristol City. The boys showed great determination and passion against the likes of Forest, being 3-0 down and bringing it back to 3-2. When the boys moved the ball quickly and kept hold of possession they looked a VERY VERY good team. Slow starts let us down though, but it is something we can improve on.

There is no reason for the kids to get there heads down and be upset though, you’ve got to remember that all these teams and professional academies and clubs in the football league. The kids were playing against may get released at some point, we’re not here to do that. EVERY single lad we coach will never get the pressure of getting released, it is something we take pride on. It is our aim, to keep improving the kids no matter what size, age or ability.

Thank you to all the parents over the weekend, they showed great support and showed great sportsmanship which was fantastic to see. Not only that, but we thank you for bringing the kids week in week out and watching them come on.

We look forward to seeing you ALL back at training on Tuesday.
